Simplifying Your Storage Unit

After I started using my storage unit year-round, I realized that I needed to clean the place up. There were boxes everywhere, which made it really frustrating to find the things that I needed. My disorganized space also caused damage, since things got crushed and stepped on whenever I tried to find things. It took a lot of work, but I decided to take an entire weekend and simplify my space. I removed all of my belongings and then sorted, labeled, and reorganized all of my boxes. When I was finished, my space was clean, tidy, and easy to use. Read here to learn how to simplify your storage unit.

Heaving Lifting Tips Every Moving Family Should Know

Blog

As with any other chore, there are correct and incorrect ways to lift heavy objects, and when you are moving out of your house, you're going to have to do it a lot. One of the main objectives involved to make the task easier and save wear and tear on your body is to use your legs and not your back. Here are a few tips to help make your job easier when you need to lift and carry heavy objects during your move.

Tips

  • If heavy items can be taken apart, the item will be much lighter.
  • Remove the door stop molding to make the entrance/exit wider.
  • Measure the article to be moved to be sure it will fit through the openings and around corners.
  • Use rollers or a dolly for large loads such as a refrigerator or stove.
  • It is easier to push rather than pull a heavy object.
  • Use blankets, heavy-duty plastic, cardboard, or newspapers under large objects to protect the floor and make the push easier.
  • Empty drawers before you move tables, dressers, or cabinets.

Furniture

Items such as filing cabinets and tall dressers are awkward items to move. Two people can distribute the weight as one carries the bottom and the other takes the top. Tilt the item to keep the weight centered and controlled.

Use a hook approach for chairs by taking the top of the chair through the door and then follow the rest through in a swinging motion. Turn the chair on its side with the appearance of an L shape and it will easily swing through the door frame.

Stairs

The easiest way to tackle stairs is using two boards as a ramp. Slowly, slide the object down the stairs while standing between them.

Lay the item on a heavy blanket and control the item using your shoulder as you back down the steps. At the same time, lift the leading edge with both hands to control the slide.

Dolly

You can substitute a dolly with a skateboard or a child's wagon. This saves your back muscles.

You can also use poles or piping by rolling the object over them. This is similar to the rollers in a factory.

Out of state moving is a huge task, no matter how much help you have helping you.
